FOBA Celebrates 50 Years as Laser Marking Pioneer
Founded in 1969, FOBA has evolved from a tool maker into an international provider of laser marking systems. The company marks its 50th anniversary, reflecting on its history and future.

FOBA Laser Marking + Engraving (ALLTEC Angewandte Laserlicht Technologie GmbH) is celebrating 50 years in business since its founding in 1969. The company has transformed from a mold-making and engraving workshop into a global provider of laser marking systems.
Established in September 1969 in Lüdenscheid, Germany, with 15 employees, FOBA began with mechanical engraving. Its expertise expanded into electronic components, laying the groundwork for developing complex control systems. The company introduced its first laser system, a Nd:YAG marking laser, in 1991.
Focusing exclusively on laser technology since 2001, FOBA now employs nearly 250 people worldwide. The company has established itself as a significant international player in the marking laser market, driven by continuous innovation and technological advancement.
In 2009, ALLTEC GmbH acquired FOBA, and the brand continued under the consolidated ALLTEC GmbH. Since 2014, the company's sole headquarters and production site have been in Selmsdorf. FOBA is now part of the U.S.-based Danaher Group, where it aims to develop innovative solutions for direct laser marking on parts.
FOBA's systems are widely used for marking components in the automotive, medical technology, electronics, and plastics industries, as well as in tool, metal, and mold making. The company offers complete marking workstations and components for integration into production lines, often featuring camera-based systems for automated part recognition and mark alignment.
