FocalPoint and STMicroelectronics Commercialize Enhanced GNSS Reliability for Automotive
FocalPoint and STMicroelectronics have entered a commercial agreement to deliver enhanced GNSS reliability for automotive applications. The joint solution combines FocalPoint's software with ST's hardware.
FocalPoint, a UK-based developer of GNSS software, and STMicroelectronics, a semiconductor manufacturer, have formalized a commercial agreement to improve the reliability of vehicle positioning in challenging environments. This agreement elevates their prior collaboration into a full commercial offering.
The joint solution aims to significantly enhance positioning accuracy in areas like urban canyons and under dense foliage, where conventional Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technologies often struggle. The S-GNSS® Auto software from FocalPoint can be implemented as a firmware upgrade to STMicroelectronics' existing Teseo hardware.
FocalPoint's S-GNSS® Auto software utilizes the company's patented Supercorrelation® technology, which has demonstrated improvements in multipath and signal-degraded conditions. Recent global trials indicated that the S-GNSS® Auto on Teseo devices significantly outperformed standard commercial-grade solutions.
The companies anticipate the solution will be deployed in both current and next-generation OEM platforms. They state the technology will contribute to safer and more reliable autonomous and connected vehicles, marking a key advancement for automotive navigation.
