Food Waste Upcycler Life Lab Resources Raises $1 Million
Singapore-based Life Lab Resources, which converts commercial food waste into aquaculture feed, has raised $1 million to expand its production capacity.
Life Lab Resources, a Singaporean company that transforms commercial food waste into aquaculture feed, has secured US$1 million in a pre-series A funding round. The capital will be used to expand production capacity at its circular food biorefinery located in Singapore.
The funding round was led by Decarb123 Pte Ltd, which invested through DC123FW Pte Ltd. The round also saw participation from Keng Eng Kee Holding Pte Ltd and follow-on investment from AC S323 Pte Ltd, an angel syndicate headed by Huang Shao-Ning.
According to the company, the increased capacity will allow for the processing of larger volumes of treated food substrates, resulting in the production of more nutrient-rich feed for aquaculture farmers. This expansion is also expected to support a greater number of circular food products.
In Singapore, regulations require companies that manufacture feed for food-producing animals to obtain a license. The Singapore Food Agency also sets guidelines for the use of certain alternative feed inputs. Life Lab Resources' model addresses food waste while creating a valuable product for the aquaculture industry.
