Ford announces Fathom electric pickup with integrated home power features
Ford has unveiled the Fathom, a sub-$30,000 electric pickup truck featuring an onboard inverter designed for home power backup.

Ford announced the upcoming release of the Fathom, an electric pickup truck priced under $30,000. Scheduled for production next year, the vehicle distinguishes itself by incorporating an inverter directly into the truck's architecture, enabling vehicle-to-home power capabilities without the need for external wallbox hardware.
The inclusion of an integrated inverter represents a shift from previous Ford models like the F-150 Lightning, which required additional equipment to convert DC power from the vehicle into household-ready AC electricity. By embedding this technology, the Fathom aims to simplify the backup power process for residential owners.
Positioned in the emerging market for lower-cost electric utility vehicles, the Fathom competes with alternatives such as the bare-bones Blank Slate. While the Fathom carries a higher price point, it includes standard features like an infotainment system, smartphone integration, and four doors, supported by Ford's existing national service network.
Industry analysts note that Ford's strategy focuses on balancing affordability with feature accessibility. The model's success will likely depend on the company's ability to maintain manufacturing quality while scaling production of this budget-conscious electric platform.
