Ford introduces remote inhibit feature for stolen vehicles
Ford is launching a new "Start Inhibit" feature designed to prevent the remote restart of stolen vehicles. This functionality is offered as part of a subscription service known as the "Security Package."

Ford is rolling out a new feature called "Start Inhibit" to combat rising vehicle thefts. The system integrates with the FordPass app, allowing owners to remotely disable a stolen vehicle from being restarted after it has been stopped and turned off.
The feature functions similarly to two-factor authentication. Owners receive notifications in the FordPass app if their vehicle is unlocked, started, or moved without their authorization. If the owner confirms the activity is unauthorized, they can remotely activate "Start Inhibit." This measure prevents the vehicle from being started again, ensuring it remains immobilized once stopped.
Subscribers to the service can also request Ford to track the vehicle and provide its real-time location directly to law enforcement. Ford collaborates with police departments to recover stolen vehicles quickly, aiming to minimize damage. Detroit police have stated a goal of recovering stolen vehicles within one hour of notification.
The "Start Inhibit" feature is available on select 2024 and newer F-150, Super Duty, Expedition, Bronco Sport, and Mustang Mach-E models. It is part of an optional subscription service called the "Security Package," which includes one year of complimentary access. After the trial period, US customers will pay $7.99 per month, while Canadian customers will be charged $9.99 per month.
