Ford Mustang Recalled Over Seatbelt Anchor Corrosion Risk
Ford is recalling approximately 405,963 Mustang vehicles globally due to a risk of corrosion in the seatbelt pretensioner, which could compromise occupant safety.
Ford is recalling a significant number of its Mustang models worldwide, totaling approximately 405,963 vehicles. The recall addresses a potential safety issue where the seatbelt pretensioner could corrode. This corrosion, exacerbated by moisture and road salt, may impair the seatbelt's performance during a collision, potentially endangering occupants.
In Germany, the recall affects 13,442 Mustang vehicles manufactured between February 14, 2014, and October 2, 2017. The issue arises when moisture, particularly from road salt, comes into contact with the seatbelt pretensioner, often due to persistently damp floor mats. This can lead to rust formation on the component.
Affected vehicles will undergo inspection by technicians. The process involves checking the pretensioner's wiring, seat mounting points, and the control unit for any signs of corrosion. Components found to be affected will be replaced as necessary. Additionally, seals on the A-pillar will be examined, and sections of the floor mats that may contact the pretensioner wiring might be trimmed.
Owners of affected Ford Mustangs are advised to contact their local Ford dealership or the official Ford hotline for further information regarding the recall and to schedule the necessary repairs. The service action code for this recall is 25S92.
