Ford Recalls Over Half a Million Broncos Due to Fire Risk
Ford is recalling 565,691 Bronco and Bronco Raptor SUVs due to a faulty wiring harness defect that may cause fires. Thus far, 15 fire incidents have been reported.
Ford Motor Company is initiating a widespread recall affecting over half a million Bronco and Bronco Raptor SUVs from the 2021 through 2026 model years. The action is prompted by a potential fire risk stemming from a defect in the engine compartment's wiring harness.
The automaker has identified that insufficient abrasion protection on the wiring harness could lead to wire damage. This damage may result in a short circuit, which in turn could generate heat or sparks and potentially cause a fire, according to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) report.
The NHTSA report indicates that Ford has documented 15 incidents of engine compartment fires potentially linked to the wiring harness between October 15, 2024, and June 20, 2026. Ford has stated that no crashes or injuries related to this defect have been reported.
Owners of the affected Bronco and Bronco Raptor vehicles will be notified by mail by Ford, with initial communications expected between August 24–28. The repair, which involves applying protective sheathing and abrasion tape to the wiring harness, will be performed at no cost to the owner at Ford dealerships.
