Ford to Integrate Apple Maps as Core Navigation System by 2027
Ford and Apple are deepening their partnership, with Apple Maps set to become the core navigation system for Ford's Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform starting in 2027. The first supported vehicle is expected to be priced around $30,000.
Automaker Ford announced an expanded partnership with Apple Inc., designating Apple Maps as the core navigation system for Ford's Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform. This integration is slated for implementation in 2027 and will be facilitated by Apple's new MapKit for Automotive SDK.
The system will provide drivers with features such as natural language turn-by-turn navigation, real-time traffic and incident information, and detailed place cards for search results. It will also offer multiple route options to assist drivers in selecting their path to a destination.
Ford will also incorporate intelligent electric vehicle routing capabilities into the platform, including battery preconditioning for specific driving tasks. Apple stated that the road-level map information will also support hands-free driving experiences developed by Ford's Latitude AI team, covering continuous stretches from on-ramp to off-ramp.
Ford President and CEO Jim Farley announced that the first all-new mid-size electric vehicle built on this platform will be priced at approximately $30,000. Farley emphasized the vehicle's aim to redefine advanced technology, making it simpler, more practical, and accessible to more users.
