Ford to Integrate Apple Maps in Next-Generation EVs

Ford has announced its intention to integrate Apple's MapKit for Automotive software development kit into its next generation of electric vehicles. This collaboration will enable the direct embedding of Apple Maps navigation and mapping functionalities directly into the vehicles' infotainment systems, enhancing the driver experience.

Ford will be the first automotive manufacturer to adopt these new developer tools. The first vehicles featuring this technology, including a midsize electric pickup truck priced around $30,000, are slated for release in 2027. This integration is part of Ford's strategy to offer affordable and efficient EVs equipped with advanced technological features.

The Apple Maps integration goes beyond basic navigation. It includes real-time traffic information, routing optimized for electric vehicles, and natural language turn-by-turn directions. Drivers will be able to search for destinations and view detailed place information directly on the car's display, with the system operating natively and separate from Apple CarPlay.

Furthermore, data from Apple Maps will be used to enhance Ford's BlueCruise driver-assistance system. The updated version of BlueCruise, expected to roll out next year, will be capable of handling entire highway journeys, including on- and off-ramps. Ford aims to progressively develop its driver-assistance system towards full autonomy in the future.
