China is attracting an increasing number of foreign tourists seeking cooler summer destinations as temperatures rise across the Northern Hemisphere. This trend is significantly boosting the country's inbound travel and consumption.
Bookings from European travelers to China saw a substantial increase of 275% year-on-year during the recent summer holiday season. Popular destinations include Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in Hunan Province, known for its mild climate and sandstone mountains, and Changbai Mountain in Jilin Province, which experiences average summer temperatures below 22 degrees Celsius.
The country's 240-hour visa-free transit policy is a key factor facilitating international travel. Zhangjiajie serves as an important gateway for visitors to Hunan, with established flight routes. Streamlined entry procedures allow tourists to proceed quickly to attractions.
Accessibility to northern regions has also improved. Changbai Mountain is now reachable from Beijing in just over four hours via high-speed rail. Beyond scenic landscapes, tourists are drawn to the convenience and quality of services, and the growing popularity of Chinese consumer products.
Shopping districts like Huaqiangbei in Shenzhen and various stores in Shanghai are reportedly popular among foreign visitors. Expanded departure tax refund policies and more convenient payment systems further enhance the travel experience, contributing to the growth in tourism and retail sectors.
