Foremay Delivers World's Largest 2.5-Inch NVMe SSD
Foremay, Inc. has begun shipping 8 TB 2.5-inch U.2 NVMe SSDs, combining high-speed PCIe x4 connectivity with a standard form factor.

PASADENA, California โ September 26, 2016 โ Foremay, Inc. announced the shipment of its 8 TB 2.5-inch U.2 NVMe SSDs, claiming the title of the world's largest capacity NVMe SSD. The drive utilizes PCIe x4 lanes, delivering read/write speeds of up to 1.2 GB/s and latency as low as 25 microseconds.
The 2.5-inch U.2 NVMe SSD features a rugged metal housing and is designed for next-generation rugged computers and servers. "A 2.5-inch NVMe U.2 form factor is the natural choice of system designers for next generation high performance, rugged computers and servers," stated Jack Winters, Foremay's CTO. "It combines the high speed and low latency of PCIe protocols with a legacy 2.5-inch SATA form factor in a rugged metal housing."
Foremay reports that the SSDs are built for high performance and reliability in industrial and military applications. In addition to capacities up to 8 TB, optional features include AES-256 hardware encryption, secure erase functions compliant with MIL-STD-810G/F standards, TCG Opal 2.0 compliance, and resistance to radiation and emissions for aerospace use. An onboard UPS protects against unexpected power loss.
