Former Alexa Lead Rohit Prasad Appointed CEO of Boston Dynamics

Rohit Prasad, formerly head of Amazon's artificial general intelligence (AGI) division and instrumental in the development of the Alexa virtual assistant, has been named the new CEO of Boston Dynamics. This appointment positions Prasad to lead the company amid increasing competition in the humanoid robotics sector.

Hyundai Motor Group, Boston Dynamics' parent company, announced earlier this year plans to establish a factory capable of producing 30,000 robots annually by 2028. Prasad's background in scaling AI technologies is expected to be crucial for these expansion efforts.

Prasad's career began at Raytheon's BBN Technologies, focusing on machine learning research. He later moved to Amazon, where he was a key figure in advancing Alexa through deep learning, enabling the assistant to improve its capabilities over time based on user data.

In his new role at Boston Dynamics, Prasad is expected to drive the integration of AI that understands and acts within the physical world. The company's humanoid robots are initially targeted for industrial applications, such as welding and logistics, with potential future expansion into more complex manufacturing tasks and possibly consumer markets.
