Former General: "NATO Threat" is Putin's Biggest Lie in War

Former NATO general Erhard Bühler has described the "NATO threat" cited by Russian President Vladimir Putin as a justification for the war as the biggest lie. The retired German Lieutenant General made these remarks in an interview for the MDR Aktuell podcast "Was tun, Herr General?" (What to do, Mr. General?). Bühler also debated whether geographical proximity makes NATO more dangerous for Russia.

Bühler did not shy away from criticizing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who named a military unit after the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA). The UPA committed massacres against Polish civilians during World War II. This naming has drawn criticism in light of historical atrocities.

In other news, at least twelve people were injured in a Russian attack on the eastern Ukrainian industrial city of Pavlohrad. Ukrainian authorities reported that a residential building was damaged and a fire broke out, attributing the incident to a drone attack.

Separately, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul expressed his expectation that the European Union will soon begin accession negotiations with Ukraine. He indicated that an agreement between Ukraine and Hungary on minority protection has facilitated this development.
