Former LinkedIn CEO Ryan Roslansky to Leave Microsoft

Ryan Roslansky, the former CEO of LinkedIn, announced Thursday that he will leave Microsoft at the end of the year, concluding nearly 18 years with the company. Roslansky had led LinkedIn for six years, overseeing its growth from 700 million to 1.3 billion members.

Roslansky cited the company's evolving work policies as a factor in his decision. Microsoft, like many companies, has implemented mandates requiring employees within a certain distance of its offices to work on-site. Roslansky stated his unwillingness to relocate his family from the Bay Area to the company's Washington headquarters for full-time, in-office work.

"I know what it would take for me to lead the next phase of this work well: being in Redmond full time, every day. But my life and my family’s life are here in the Bay Area," Roslansky wrote in a LinkedIn post. He indicated that the decision was made after long consideration and that the role is now suited for leaders who can be present on-site.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella acknowledged Roslansky's departure in a memo to employees, stating that he leaves the organization in a strong position. Roslansky's exit follows other high-profile departures from Microsoft earlier in the year.
