Former Naughty Dog Developer: Uncharted Series Remake Unnecessary

Former Naughty Dog developer Benson Russell has expressed a strong opinion that a remake of the Uncharted series is not needed. Russell, who previously worked at the game studio Naughty Dog, believes the existing versions of the games are sufficient and remakes are unnecessary.

Russell bases his stance on the fact that the Uncharted games are still popular and playable on modern consoles. He sees no reason to redevelop the games when they are already available and functional. According to him, a significant remake would require rewriting the entire story, which would alter the original spirit and elements of the games.

"Why make a remake if the games are already playable on modern consoles?" Russell asked in an interview with Insider Gaming. He suggested that Naughty Dog should instead leverage the experiences from games like Uncharted 4 to create new titles, possibly set in the series' past.

Russell also compared the situation to the remake of The Last of Us Part I, stating that the same logic applies there as well. He believes that if Naughty Dog were to decide to make an Uncharted remake, it would be more for financial gain than a necessary development step for the studio.

The latest installment in the Uncharted series was The Lost Legacy, released in 2017. Since then, the series' future has been unclear, and Russell's comments add a perspective that questions the necessity of remakes in the gaming industry.
