Former PlayStation Head: I Often Ignored Sony Executive Instructions
Former PlayStation head Kazuo Hirai revealed that he frequently disregarded instructions from Sony executives while leading the company's gaming division.
Kazuo Hirai, who previously headed PlayStation, has disclosed in a recent interview that he often did not adhere to directives from Sony executives during his tenure.
Hirai stated that when he was president of Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE), he would follow his own judgment when instructions came from CEO Howard Stringer and other senior management. He reportedly told them, "What headquarters says doesn't matter, we are PlayStation."
Hirai succeeded Howard Stringer as Sony's CEO in 2012. During his leadership, he introduced the "One Sony" reform plan, aiming to align all divisions toward a common goal rather than operating independently.
The revelation sheds light on the strategic autonomy PlayStation maintained within Sony and Hirai's assertive leadership style.
