Former Rockstar Developer: GTA 6 'Meaningless' on Switch 2

Former Rockstar Games developer Jeremy Smith believes a Grand Theft Auto 6 release on the Nintendo Switch 2 would lack significant meaning due to audience and hardware considerations.

Jeremy Smith, a former developer at Rockstar Games, has stated that releasing Grand Theft Auto 6 on the forthcoming Nintendo Switch 2 would not be particularly meaningful. Smith cited potential mismatches between the core GTA audience and the typical Switch user base as a primary concern.

In a recent interview, Smith suggested that dedicated fans of the Grand Theft Auto series are likely to acquire a console capable of running the game at its intended performance, such as a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S. He questioned the necessity of developing a potentially scaled-down experience for the Switch 2, implying that it might not offer the optimal gameplay experience.

This assessment contrasts with the previous success of GTA titles on Nintendo hardware. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition reportedly contributed a substantial portion of its sales to the Nintendo Switch version.

Smith also proposed that a mobile version of GTA 6 could be feasible, given the existing technological capabilities if Rockstar Games were to pursue it. Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled for release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
