Former semiconductor engineer joins logistics startup Indemni as first hire
Sherif Amer has transitioned from a hardware engineering background to serve as the founding engineer for Indemni, a freight-focused technology startup.

Sherif Amer, formerly an embedded systems engineer at Infineon, has joined the San Francisco-based startup Indemni as its first employee. The company develops infrastructure for freight brokers, focusing on driver verification and real-time shipment monitoring to detect logistics fraud.
Amer’s transition from semiconductors to software engineering involved building Indemni’s asynchronous processing and verification systems. By designing custom solutions for message recovery and concurrency rather than relying exclusively on managed cloud services, he has prioritized architectural control over speed of implementation. The role requires broad technical responsibility, ranging from database modeling to troubleshooting production issues.
As Indemni expands, Amer’s focus has shifted toward setting engineering standards and mentoring new team members. Reflecting on the change, he notes that the primary adjustment from his time in large corporate environments has been the shift toward operating with incomplete information and taking ownership of business-level product decisions.
