Fortnite to Introduce AI-Powered Character Personas on July 30

Epic Games is expanding the use of artificial intelligence in its popular game Fortnite with the introduction of AI-powered character personas. Starting July 30, creators will be able to publish game experiences featuring non-player characters (NPCs) equipped with distinct voices and personalities.

The developer has pre-created 36 characters that creators can implement immediately. These include familiar Fortnite figures such as Agent Jonesy, Peely the banana, Fishstick, and Cuddle Team Leader. This move builds upon Epic Games' previous experiments with AI, including the Darth Vader NPC introduced last year, which utilized a voice synthesized from actor James Earl Jones's recordings with estate approval.

This new feature aims to provide creators with more sophisticated tools to develop engaging in-game content. The AI personas are designed to offer consistent interactions and character development, potentially enhancing player immersion and gameplay variety.
