Fortum and Framatome to Develop New European Nuclear Fuel

Energy company Fortum announced on April 9, 2026, that it has signed an agreement with Framatome to collaborate on the development of new European nuclear fuel.

The company is also set to support global AI infrastructure firm Nscale's plans to establish a data center in Harjavalta, Finland. This initiative aims to provide significant capacity for data center services in the region. Additionally, Fortum has announced its support for DayOne's data center establishment in Nurmijärvi, contributing to Finland's electrification efforts.

Financially, Fortum reported strong first-quarter results for 2026, driven by high electricity prices and increased generation volumes. The company also bolstered its liquidity by securing a new revolving loan facility worth EUR 2.7 billion.

Other recent announcements include the Pjelax wind farm entering the mFRR market and permit applications for two pumped hydro storage projects in Sweden. Fortum also hosted the Eurelectric Power Summit in Helsinki, focusing on the role of electrification in driving Europe's competitiveness.
