Fortum consolidates innovation and venturing activities
Fortum Oyj is integrating its venture investments and innovation efforts under the new Fortum Innovation & Venturing unit. The move aims to strengthen collaboration with customers, startups, and other ecosystem partners.

Fortum Oyj has integrated its venture investment activities, previously operating under the Valkea Growth Club brand since 2020, into a new unit named Fortum Innovation & Venturing. This consolidation reinforces the company's commitment to co-creating impactful solutions within the energy ecosystem.
The company aims to deepen collaboration with customers, startups, co-investors, and other partners to develop solutions that promote cleaner energy and more efficient operations. Fortum recently launched the Spark Innovation Challenge, inviting European growth companies to participate and scale their solutions.
At a recent event, five finalists pitched their ideas, with Hylosense, a precision weather forecasting application, being named the winner. This victory initiates a pilot project with Fortum, opening new avenues for smarter energy operations.
Discussions at the event also highlighted the role of artificial intelligence in accelerating both energy demand and innovation, emphasizing that greater impact is achieved when startups, investors, and large corporations collaborate.
