Fortum highlights Finnish nuclear expertise as European market demand grows

Finland’s long-standing nuclear energy sector has established a technical base that Fortum is now deploying across Europe to support new capacity projects and lifetime extensions. As European nations look to bolster energy security and meet climate targets, demand for specialized nuclear expertise has risen, providing an opening for the Finnish utility’s service division.

Fortum has spent the last decade offering nuclear consulting in more than 30 countries. The company currently supports major nuclear programs, including those in Poland, while assisting technology startups. The firm draws heavily on its operational experience at the Loviisa plant to advise other European operators on extending the functional life of existing reactors.

Beyond plant operations, the company provides proprietary simulation software, such as Apros, and waste management technologies. Fortum has deployed its NURES liquid radioactive waste treatment systems at over 60 sites globally, positioning itself as a key supplier in the lifecycle management of nuclear energy facilities.
