Energy company Fortum has issued a series of tips for cottage owners aimed at reducing electricity consumption. These recommendations are becoming increasingly relevant due to rising energy prices and the growing importance of energy conservation. The advice covers a range of measures, from heating and appliance usage to managing separate electricity contracts for cottages.

Key savings measures include installing a heat pump, which provides an efficient and cost-effective way to heat a cottage. Fortum also recommends investing in thermal management systems that allow for timed and remote control of heating. Smart systems can further reduce electricity usage during peak price periods.

Structural improvements are also highlighted for managing cottage energy consumption. Sealing strips around doors and windows are advised to prevent heat loss, significantly reducing heating needs. Similarly, replacing old incandescent bulbs with energy-efficient LED lamps offers long-term savings.

For electric vehicle charging and general electricity use, Fortum suggests utilizing smart charging and spreading out consumption. The "Friday trap," where significant electricity usage is concentrated in a short period, can increase grid capacity charges. Therefore, staggering consumption is recommended.

Fortum also emphasizes the importance of separate electricity contracts for cottages and offers the ability to manage multiple agreements through a unified Fortum app. This app allows users to monitor their consumption and efficiently manage their electricity contracts.
