Fortum to present study results on new nuclear power in Finland and Sweden

Helsinki – Energy company Fortum will present the findings of its two-year study on the feasibility of new nuclear power in Finland and Sweden on Monday, March 24. The company's research examined prerequisites for new nuclear projects, considering both small modular reactors (SMRs) and conventional large reactors.

The Fortum study addresses the broader question of future electricity needs in the Nordics. It assesses how much and what kind of electricity production is required to ensure security of supply, enable the electrification of industry and transport, and support new clean industrial investments across the region.

The company has invited media, investors, and analysts to a webcast event to unveil the report's key conclusions. The program includes presentations from Fortum's leadership, including CEO Markus Rauramo, discussing the potential role of new nuclear power in the Nordic energy landscape.

The event will be conducted in English, with opportunities for interviews afterward. Fortum states the study is part of a wider examination of the energy system's transition, influenced by renewable energy, hydrogen economy, and energy efficiency.
