Fortum to provide technical support for Helen's nuclear program

Fortum Oyj announced on Tuesday that its Nuclear Services division will act as a technical support partner for Helen's nuclear energy program. The framework agreement allows Fortum to supply its expertise to the project, which aims to construct a small nuclear power plant in the Helsinki metropolitan area during the 2030s.

The selection follows a public tendering process where Helen identified four technical support partners. Janne Liuko, Nuclear Program Manager at Helen, stated that the framework agreements facilitate the establishment of long-term, reliable partnerships and ensure flexible access to diverse expert services throughout the project's lifecycle. Liuko also highlighted the significance of domestic partners as a reflection of Finnish expertise in nuclear energy.

Fortum emphasized its unique position owing to decades of experience as an owner and operator of nuclear power plants. The company has seen its new nuclear power services grow rapidly in recent years, with ongoing projects in countries such as Poland and Slovenia. Fortum Nuclear Services brings over 45 years of experience in the design, licensing, and operation of nuclear facilities, covering the entire lifecycle from new builds to decommissioning and waste disposal.
