Fortum to supply wind power to Anora's Koskenkorva distillery
Fortum and Anora have signed an agreement for local wind power from the Kalax wind farm. The deal will cover part of the Koskenkorva distillery's electricity needs between 2023 and 2025.
Energy company Fortum will supply wind power to Anora's facility in Koskenkorva, Närpiö, Finland. An agreement has been signed whereby electricity generated from the Kalax wind farm can meet up to half of the distillery's electricity consumption. The supply, covering the period 2023–2025, is part of Anora's objective to reduce its production's fossil carbon dioxide emissions to zero.
The Kalax wind farm, comprising 21 turbines with a total capacity of 90 megawatts, was commissioned in 2021. Fortum notes that the conditions in Finland are excellent for wind power production, and the company aims to increase its emission-free power generation capacity to several gigawatts.
Anora has previously reduced emissions at the Koskenkorva plant by utilizing bioenergy and circular economy principles. The company reported that its bioenergy plant has already cut the facility's emissions by approximately 60 percent since 2014. The agreement with Fortum deepens their cooperation in emission reduction efforts.
Fortum has a long history of providing energy solutions to industrial customers. The company emphasizes its increasing focus on low-emission power generation and collaboration with industrial and infrastructure clients.
