Finnish energy company Fortum will support Elektriciteits Produktiemaatschappij Zuid (EPZ), the operator of the Borssele Nuclear Power Plant in the Netherlands, with consultation for a life extension investment study. The agreement, signed in February 2025, will see Fortum review EPZ's existing investment study plans and provide experience-based feedback and consultation on the assessment and planning of necessary activities.

Fortum's Nuclear Services leverage the company's four decades of experience operating its own nuclear facilities. This includes previous life extension projects at its Loviisa Nuclear Power Plant, such as the ongoing Loviisa Long Term Operation program aimed at enabling operation until 2050.

The scope of the project involves Fortum evaluating the necessary investment scope and scale for the Borssele plant's life extension, examining technical solutions and potential challenges, and offering alternative perspectives on the modernization project's implementation schedule.

The project commenced in March 2025 and is expected to conclude by the summer.
