Helsinki โ€“ Fortum Oyj's 2025 financial results were significantly influenced by electricity price optimization and solid achieved sales prices, even as the company's power generation volumes declined. The company's financial statements show a comparable operating profit of EUR 924 million for the full year, down from EUR 1,178 million in 2024. This reduction was mainly attributed to lower generation volumes and realized power prices.

For the fourth quarter of 2025, comparable operating profit stood at EUR 251 million, compared to EUR 257 million in the same period last year. Total sales for 2025 amounted to EUR 4,989 million, a decrease from EUR 5,800 million in 2024. Fortum highlighted a strong optimization premium, which contributed EUR 9.7 per megawatt-hour to the achieved power price across its entire portfolio.

The company's Board of Directors has proposed a dividend of EUR 0.74 per share, a reduction from the EUR 1.40 paid out in 2024. Fortum President and CEO Markus Rauramo stated that 2025 was characterized by a strong optimization premium and a solid achieved power price despite low generation volumes. Rauramo expressed confidence in growing electricity demand in the Nordics, driven by factors such as data centers, decarbonization, and industrial electrification.

Electricity generation volumes decreased notably, particularly in nuclear and hydro power, partly due to a prolonged unplanned outage at the Oskarshamn nuclear plant and lower hydro inflows. However, the achieved power price of EUR 51.4 per megawatt-hour remained strong, supported by effective physical optimization. Fortum expects the optimization premium to range between EUR 8โ€“10 per megawatt-hour in 2026.
