FORVIA HELLA Launches Integrated 12-Volt Lithium-Ion Battery for Electric Vehicles
FORVIA HELLA has introduced its first fully integrated 12-volt lithium-ion battery pack, combining battery cells and an energy management system. The product for electric and hybrid vehicles has already secured significant series production orders.

Automotive supplier FORVIA HELLA has launched its first fully integrated 12-volt lithium-ion battery pack, designed for electric and hybrid vehicles. The new system combines lithium-ion battery cells and a low-voltage battery management system into a single unit.
The company has already secured series production orders from several international vehicle manufacturers, with a total order value in the low to mid-three-digit million-euro range. Series production is scheduled to begin in China in summer 2027.
The new battery pack is approximately 20 percent lighter than conventional lead-acid batteries, according to FORVIA HELLA. The integrated design aims to reduce installation space and simplify vehicle architectures. The system is intended to provide a stable power supply for vehicle safety, comfort, and infotainment functions, and also serves as a redundant power source if the high-voltage network fails.
FORVIA HELLA emphasizes that a dependable 12-volt power supply remains essential in electric and hybrid vehicles. Many functions, including driver assistance systems and infotainment, still rely on the 12-volt network. The new battery and its high-voltage DC-DC converter can together ensure redundant power supply for safety-critical functions up to Automotive Safety Integrity Level D (ASIL D).
The introduction of this integrated battery is part of FORVIA HELLA's strategy to offer complete energy management systems rather than individual components, aiming to help automakers develop more efficient and reliable electric and hybrid vehicle architectures.
