Four-legged robot shipments surge, industry applications drive revenue growth

Global shipments of four-legged robots grew 92.5% in the first half of 2026, according to an IDC report. Industrial applications are increasingly becoming the primary revenue driver for the market.

The global market for four-legged robots experienced a significant surge in the first half of 2026, with shipments increasing by 92.5% year-over-year to over 49,000 units, according to a new report from International Data Corporation (IDC).

The report highlights a notable divergence in market revenue. While the education, research, and consumer sectors accounted for approximately 60% of shipments, they contributed less than a third of the total market revenue. In contrast, industrial applications, including government, manufacturing, and public utilities, generated over two-thirds of the revenue with less than 40% of the shipments.

Industry-specific applications are proving to be the core growth engine. In the first half of 2026, the market size for industrial applications grew by 125.1%, with deployments increasing by a substantial 260.5%. This indicates a strong and growing demand for robots in professional settings.

The report identifies a competitive landscape with distinct tiers. Chinese manufacturers such as Unitree, DEEP Robotics, and AGIBOT are leveraging supply chain and manufacturing advantages to expand into consumer and various industrial sectors. Meanwhile, Western companies like ANYbotics and Boston Dynamics are focusing on specialized scenarios within government and industrial operations.

Looking ahead, the competition is expected to shift from hardware performance to advancements in artificial intelligence, comprehensive solutions, and software ecosystems. IDC anticipates the four-legged robot market will transition from rapid expansion to a phase of application deepening and capability enhancement, with industrial use cases and their commercial value playing an increasingly critical role.
