Four Major Chinese Firms Sign 5G-ATG Cooperation Agreement
China Mobile, China Eastern Airlines, COMAC, and ZTE have signed an agreement to collaborate on developing 5G-ATG (Air-to-Ground) services. The partnership aims to enhance in-flight internet connectivity for passengers.
Shanghai – China Mobile, China Eastern Airlines, Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), and ZTE have signed a strategic cooperation agreement to advance 5G Air-to-Ground (5G-ATG) communication technology. The signing ceremony took place in Shanghai.
The collaboration aims to deepen the integration between 5G technology and air travel, enhancing the passenger experience with improved in-flight connectivity. By pooling their resources and expertise, the four companies will focus on developing robust 5G-ATG services, intelligent computing, and large model technologies applicable to aviation.
This initiative aligns with national directives to foster a deeper integration between advanced manufacturing and modern services. The partnership is expected to propel in-flight internet access into a new phase characterized by higher speeds, wider availability, smarter operations, and greater technological self-reliance.
5G-ATG technology establishes a two-way communication link between aircraft and ground stations using dedicated base stations positioned along flight routes and advanced antenna systems. Chinese regulatory bodies have supported the technology's development, approving trials and designating it as a key project for national network infrastructure.
