Four Proposed PFAS Settlements Total Over $149 Million for US Public Water Systems

Four proposed class action settlements have been reached in the U.S. concerning PFAS contamination of public drinking water supplies. The settlements aim to compensate public water systems for alleged damages.

1 October 2026

Four proposed class action settlements have been finalized in the United States, addressing claims of per- and polyfluoroaliphatic substances (PFAS) contamination affecting public drinking water. The settlements, totaling over $149 million, are part of the Aqueous Film-Forming Foams (AFFF) Products Liability Litigation pending in the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina.

The settlements resolve certain claims against Carrier Global Corporation, Archroma U.S., Inc., Amerex Corporation, and Nation Ford Chemical Company. These entities are accused of contributing to PFAS contamination in drinking water supplied by Public Water Systems (PWS). The settling defendants deny any liability, and the litigation continues against other parties.

The settlements allocate over $149 million for eligible PWS. Carrier Global Corporation will contribute $129.2 million, Archroma U.S., Inc. $14 million, Amerex Corporation $4 million, and Nation Ford Chemical Company $1.875 million. The specific amount a PWS may receive depends on the allocation procedures and submitted claim information.

Eligible PWS generally include those with impacted water sources as of July 31, 2026, or serving over 3,300 people. PWS seeking compensation must submit required claim information. A final fairness hearing to approve the settlements is scheduled for January 15, 2027. Details on eligibility and claims are available at www.PFASWaterSettlement.com.
