Four Rescue Organizations Support Emergency Care Reform

Hannover, Germany โ€“ The regional branches of four recognized non-profit aid organizations โ€“ Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB), Deutsches Rotes Kreuz (DRK), Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe (JUH), and Malteser Hilfsdienst (MHD) โ€“ have announced their support for the new regional government's plans to reform the state's emergency care system.

The organizations emphasize the urgent need for the reform's implementation. Emergency services and hospital emergency rooms have been struggling with increasing patient numbers for years, many of whom could be treated in other, less acute healthcare settings. The government's proposed measures, such as consolidating emergency call centers for numbers 112 and 116117, aim to improve patient routing.

Furthermore, the organizations endorse pilot projects like the "municipal emergency medical technician." These trained professionals could be granted more responsibility and operate more autonomously. As the largest providers of emergency services in the region, the aid organizations offer their expertise and support for the reform process.

Key objectives of the reform also include combating the critical shortage of qualified personnel and better utilizing the skills of emergency responders. The organizations also suggest temporary exceptions for trainees in emergency medical technician programs who already possess relevant experience, allowing them to be included in regular staffing from the beginning of their training.
