FP Corporation Reports Q3 Earnings Amidst Rising Material Costs
FP Corporation saw a decline in profitability for the third quarter of fiscal year 2013, as surging raw material prices and delayed product price revisions weighed on margins.

For the nine-month period ending December 31, 2013, FP Corporation recorded net sales of 125.4 billion yen, a modest 1.4% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. However, the company experienced a significant earnings contraction, with ordinary profit falling to 9.0 billion yen—a 32.1% decrease from the previous year’s results.
The decline in profitability was driven primarily by an approximately 3.5 billion yen spike in raw material costs, coupled with intensified competition in the commodity product segment. The company noted that efforts to pass these costs onto customers through price adjustments faced delays, preventing full recovery of the margin compression. Furthermore, the firm incurred roughly 1.4 billion yen in increased operational expenses due to ongoing capital investments in manufacturing and logistics.
Despite the profit downturn, the company reported growth in its specialized product lines, including its 'Multi FP' and 'Multi Solid' series, as well as new transparent PP and PET containers. Management attributed the success of these items to their functional advantages and the market trend toward recycled material usage. FP Corporation intends to continue focusing on expanding its high-value product portfolio and enhancing logistics efficiency to mitigate ongoing cost pressures.
