Framework Laptop 13 Ryzen 7040 Update Causes System Failures
A BIOS update for the Framework Laptop 13 featuring AMD Ryzen 7040 processors has reportedly rendered systems inoperable, according to multiple user reports. The company is investigating the issue.

A BIOS update intended for the Framework Laptop 13 with AMD Ryzen 7040-series processors has allegedly caused systems to become inoperable, as reported by multiple users online. These users have stated that their devices ceased functioning after the installation of the update.
Framework began shipping pre-built Ryzen 7040-based Framework Laptop 13 computers and compatible motherboards in 2023. In June 2023, Framework released BIOS 3.20 for these devices. The update was designed to add mainboard support for features like a haptic touchpad and new speakers for the higher-end Framework Laptop 13 Pro models, alongside fixing reported issues.
However, a number of users have reported that the installation of BIOS 3.20 has resulted in their laptops becoming unusable, a situation often referred to as "bricking," where the device fails to power on or function altogether.
Framework has acknowledged awareness of the reported issues and is actively investigating the matter. The company has not yet provided specific details on the scope of the problem or a timeline for a resolution. The total number of affected devices remains unclear, though some users have reported successful installations without incident.
