Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft evaluates two years of internal AI platform FhGenie
Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft has reported on the performance of its internal AI platform FhGenie, which provides 12,000 employees with secure access to language models.
Since 2023, Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft has operated FhGenie, an internal AI platform designed to mitigate data privacy and security risks associated with public AI tools. The platform serves as a central hub for generative AI, allowing employees to conduct text analysis and content creation within a framework that complies with strict data protection regulations.
Currently, FhGenie offers access to more than 20 language models, including the European-developed Teuken 7B. The platform reports over one million messages exchanged monthly by approximately 12,000 active users. To ensure digital sovereignty, the system operates entirely within the European Economic Area, utilizing a stateless architecture that prevents the storage of personal user data.
Prof. Ingo Weber, Director of Digitization and IT Infrastructure, stated that the project demonstrates Europe’s capability to implement AI technologies for practical research and industry applications. The platform’s integration capabilities have grown to include tools like DALL-E 3 and connections to internal enterprise systems such as SAP SIP.
Fraunhofer continues to refine the platform, focusing on the integration of advanced models and expanded API access for future research initiatives.
