The Fraunhofer Institute for Translational Medicine and Pharmacology (ITMP) has commenced construction of a new research facility in Penzberg, Germany. This center will concentrate on immunology, infection, and pandemic research, with the goal of developing diagnostic systems for pandemic pathogens and exploring novel therapies.
The groundbreaking ceremony marks a significant step in combating infectious diseases and advancing diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. The project involves collaboration with key partners, including Roche, LMU Klinikum München, and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU).
The new building will house state-of-the-art laboratories, fostering a synergy between academic research, clinical practice, and industrial applications. The initiative aims to accelerate the transfer of scientific findings into practical clinical uses and industrial innovations, addressing 21st-century healthcare challenges.
With an investment of nearly €90 million from the state of Bavaria and the federal government, the Penzberg site will bolster research into pandemic prevention, early detection, and infection treatment. This development reinforces Bavaria's standing as a hub for biomedical innovation.
