The Fraunhofer Institute for Translational Medicine and Pharmacology (ITMP) has officially opened its research site in Penzberg, located on the campus of Roche Diagnostics. The facility focuses on identifying pandemic pathogens and analyzing the immune system's role in infectious diseases.

While researchers are currently working in temporary rented space at the Roche life sciences hub, a permanent building is in development near the existing industrial site. The initiative aims to integrate university research with industry expertise, supported by a 40-million-euro investment from the state of Bavaria.

This site acts as a key component of a national network for immune-mediated disease research. By pooling resources from the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, LMU Munich, and Roche, the partnership intends to accelerate the development of diagnostics and therapeutics for future health threats.
