FREELANDER Expands Middle East Footprint and Targets Morocco for African Market Entry
Automotive brand FREELANDER is scaling operations in the Middle East for a 2027 launch, with plans to enter the African market through Morocco shortly thereafter.

FREELANDER, the automotive brand formed by a joint venture between JLR and Chery, is progressing with plans to enter 11 markets across the Middle East. The expansion, which covers countries including the UAE, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia, is scheduled for a full-scale rollout in the first half of 2027. The brand is currently transitioning from initial partner negotiations to the establishment of physical sales and service networks, with the FREELANDER 8 model slated for a UAE launch in the first quarter of 2027.
The brand has simultaneously announced its entry strategy for Africa, identifying Morocco as its primary hub. Working alongside Tunisia as part of an initial regional group, FREELANDER aims to launch its African operations by mid-2027. The company is actively vetting local partners to manage after-sales and retail operations, focusing on market-specific product strategies.
Commenting on the expansion, CEO Lucia Mao highlighted the necessity of local infrastructure and trust-building as critical success factors. By combining JLR’s design oversight with Chery’s supply chain and technical integration, the brand seeks to secure a foothold in competitive emerging markets through a localized service model.
