Freitag Launches Premium Handbags Made from Used Truck Tarps

Swiss bag brand Freitag has launched its new premium collection, Reference, featuring four handbag models. Priced between $460 and $660, the collection utilizes recycled truck tarpaulins, continuing the company's commitment to sustainability.

The Reference collection aims to blend Freitag's signature use of upcycled materials with more elegant and feminine designs. The company previously experimented with a higher-end line approximately 15 years ago, and customer demand has now led to the relaunch of this collection.

Freitag is known for its use of recycled materials. Founded in 1993 by brothers Markus and Daniel Freitag, the company sought to create waterproof and durable bags for their bike commutes in Zurich. The company acquires hundreds of thousands of tarps annually, with each bag receiving a unique appearance from its letters and colors.

The new Reference bags, ranging from a small crossbody to a shoulder bag capable of holding a 13-inch laptop, come with a repair kit. While primarily unisex, their design and the unique nature of the material appeal to consumers who value quality and environmentally conscious products.
