Fresenius and WuXi Biologics Sign Biosimilar Development Agreement

Fresenius has entered an agreement with WuXi Biologics for access to 37 biosimilar candidates, aiming to expand its portfolio to 66 molecules within a decade.

2 November 2026

Fresenius SE & Co. KGaA has reached an exclusive development agreement with WuXi Biologics, a contract research and manufacturing organization. The deal grants Fresenius options for up to 37 biosimilar candidates, targeting a market segment currently worth over €370 billion in originator sales. This partnership is designed to scale the company's biopharma portfolio from 29 molecules to 66 over the next ten years.

Under the terms, Fresenius will select candidates for development based on market attractiveness and expected returns, compensating WuXi Biologics on a fee-for-service basis. Fresenius retains full commercialization rights and global marketing authorizations for all products developed under this collaboration. Manufacturing strategy will be determined by Fresenius, with the option to integrate production into the existing mAbxience network.

CEO Michael Sen stated the agreement provides a scalable pathway to triple the portfolio while maintaining strategic control. The expanded pipeline spans 13 therapeutic areas, including neurology and nephrology. Initial development efforts are slated to focus on polatuzumab vedotin and teprotumumab.

The company confirmed its 2026 financial guidance remains unchanged. However, management noted that the agreement is additive to previous projections, leading to an upward revision of long-term biopharma growth targets beyond 2030.
