Friends of Science Society Challenges UN Group on Climate and Net Zero Targets

Calgary, Alberta – The Friends of Science Society, marking its 24th year of operation, has issued a debate challenge regarding climate and Net Zero targets to a UN group it identifies as "Friends of Science." This challenge is framed in response to the activities of the UN-affiliated group.

The society states that "science is about inquiry, not compliance." Its climate intelligence partner, Clintel, formerly led by Czech President Václav Klaus, previously called for debate in 2019. Friends of Science Society suggests that current climate discourse has shifted from scientific inquiry to adhering to established narratives.

Clintel's past open letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres received significant attention online before facing platform restrictions. Friends of Science Society emphasizes its network of over 2,000 scientists and scholars who are prepared to engage in a "civil debate" with the UN's purported "Friends of Science."

The organization references the documentary "Global Warning" which explores issues with Net Zero targets and the influence of climate activism on policy. The film contrasts activist ideologies with scientific commentary and raises questions about access and influence in climate negotiations, particularly concerning Canada. Friends of Science Society expresses concern about being caught in a "Green Spider Web," alluding to the potential restrictive nature of climate policies.
