FRITZ! GmbH has begun rolling out its FRITZ!OS 8.50 update, introducing new security features and enhancing network stability for its home networking devices.

10 October 2026

FRITZ! GmbH has initiated the rollout of its FRITZ!OS 8.50 operating system update, aiming to bolster the security and stability of home networks. The update is first available for the FRITZ!Box 7690 model, with wider distribution to other current FRITZ!Box and FRITZ!Repeater devices expected in the coming weeks.

The FRITZ!OS 8.50 update brings several new functionalities, including a DNS filter mechanism designed to block access to unwanted internet domains. It also features intelligent prioritization for data streams, improving the performance of real-time applications such as video conferencing and online gaming. Furthermore, the update expands smart home capabilities and enhances overall system stability.

A key new feature is the DNS filter, which can utilize predefined or user-configured lists to block access to malicious websites, advertising, and trackers. The update also includes improved diagnostic tools and smart home automation features. A new 'Smart Check' function within the MyFRITZ!App provides users with recommendations and warnings concerning internet connectivity, telephony, network status, Wi-Fi, smart home devices, and security.

Users with automatic updates enabled will receive the FRITZ!OS 8.50 update automatically. Others can manually initiate the update through the FRITZ!Box user interface. FRITZ! GmbH continues to focus on improving the performance and security of its devices through ongoing software enhancements.
