FRITZ!Box 5690 Pro gains Matter support in new FRITZ! Labor version

FRITZ! GmbH has released a new FRITZ! Labor update for its FRITZ!Box 5690 Pro router, introducing support for the Matter smart home standard. This update prepares the device for the upcoming FRITZ!OS 8.50 release, allowing users to experiment with Matter technology ahead of time.

Matter is designed to unify smart home devices across different manufacturers. With the new FRITZ! Labor version, the FRITZ!Box 5690 Pro can function as a Matter-Bridge. This allows FRITZ! smart home devices and other Matter-compatible devices connected to the FRITZ! network to be integrated into a shared Matter ecosystem.

This new functionality enables users to control FRITZ! smart home products, such as the FRITZ!Smart Thermo 302, through Matter networks. Users can thus benefit from enhanced voice control and smart applications via platforms like Apple Home, Google Home, or Amazon Alexa.

FRITZ! Labor updates provide users with a preview of upcoming FRITZ!OS features, along with the latest security and energy efficiency improvements. FRITZ! GmbH encourages users to test the new Matter integration and provide feedback to support ongoing development. The company already offers Matter compatibility through its FRITZ!Smart Gateway.
