FRITZ!Box New Software Ensures Stable Gaming Network

FRITZ!Box's upcoming FRITZ!OS 8.50 will automatically identify and prioritize gaming traffic to enhance online gaming performance and stability in home networks.

12 October 2026

FRITZ! GmbH is set to release its new FRITZ!OS 8.50 software update for its FRITZ!Box routers, aiming to improve the stability of online gaming experiences.

The update will automatically recognize gaming traffic and prioritize it within the home network, alongside other real-time data streams such as video conferences. This feature is designed to prevent lag, packet loss, and sudden disconnections during gameplay, particularly in situations with multiple devices simultaneously utilizing the network for large downloads or concurrent streaming.

FRITZ! GmbH offers two new flagship routers, the FRITZ!Box 5690 Pro (for DSL and fiber) and the FRITZ!Box 6690 Pro (for cable), which support Wi-Fi 7 technology. Wi-Fi 7 utilizes three frequency bands and wider channels, helping to maintain a stable connection even when numerous wireless devices are active concurrently.

The company also highlights the benefits of wired LAN connections for online gaming due to their consistently low latency and minimal jitter. FRITZ!Box models feature multiple Gigabit Ethernet ports, with the latest models including at least a 2.5 Gbit/s port. FRITZ!OS 8.50 will be available for free shortly and can already be tested in the FRITZ! Labor environment.
