Fujitsu Japan and Kobe City Waterworks Bureau Develop AI System for Construction Drawing Audits

Fujitsu Japan, in collaboration with the Kobe City Waterworks Bureau, has developed an artificial intelligence (AI)-based system designed to automate the audit of construction drawings for water supply facilities. The "AI Audit Application" system aims to enhance efficiency by automatically detecting symbols and relevant data within these plans.

Utilizing AI image analysis technology, the system can identify approximately 30 types of water supply facility symbols, extracting details such as pipe diameter and type directly from the construction designs. This information is then presented on the drawing itself, accompanied by a list. Kobe City personnel will conduct a final review based on these AI-generated insights and the city's established construction standards.

The Kobe City Waterworks Bureau has previously implemented measures to improve convenience for construction contractors, including digital applications and remote audits for simpler projects. However, the significant volume of approximately 6,000 annual applications has historically placed a substantial burden on human resources required for manual design audits.

This AI system is anticipated to significantly reduce staff workload, shorten audit times, and improve the accuracy of construction designs through consistent correction guidance provided to contractors. Fujitsu Japan stated its continued commitment to leveraging AI and digital technologies to address societal challenges.
