Furniture-Like Robot Aims for Home Market Entry

Weave Robotics, a San Francisco-based startup, began accepting pre-orders in early July for its Isaac 1 robot at $7,999, with first deliveries planned for California homes this fall. The company was founded in 2024 by two former Apple veterans with expertise in machine learning, robotics, and AI product management.

The Isaac 1 is designed to resemble a piece of furniture. When idle, the robot lowers itself, closes its cameras, and retreats behind an upholstered partition that matches its fabric panels. This design aims to integrate robots seamlessly into homes without requiring significant user accommodation. Weave states the robot is capable of tasks such as making beds and folding laundry.

Competitors in the humanoid robot space include Tesla's Optimus and Figure, which are developing robots for industrial and potential home use. 1X offers its Neo robot, a $20,000 bipedal humanoid. Goldman Sachs projects the humanoid market could reach $38 billion by 2035.

Weave argues that a wheeled robot disguised as furniture is more practical for home environments than complex humanoids. The company has developed its own wheel modules to ensure performance across various floor surfaces, including carpets. Initial deliveries this fall will provide the first real-world tests of its suitability for home use.
