Future of Heide battery facility remains uncertain

The future of the industrial site in Heide, originally intended for Northvolt's battery production, remains uncertain 18 months after the company's insolvency. Dithmarschen District Administrator Thorben Schütt is scheduled to provide a status update during a closed-door meeting of the district committee on Tuesday.

While the US-based firm Lyten has signaled interest in acquiring the project, officials note that numerous details remain unresolved. Despite the challenges, local authorities maintain a target date for the start of construction in 2027.

The current development plan for the site envisions a hybrid facility, potentially incorporating battery cell manufacturing, a data center, and battery storage systems. The outcome of these discussions is critical for the region, which has significant economic stakes tied to the industrial development of the area.
