Future of Work: Two Company Types Differ on AI Use
The future of work will be defined by two company types: those using AI to reduce labor costs and those using it to enhance employee value.

Companies are approaching a critical juncture regarding artificial intelligence (AI) adoption. Inc. Magazine suggests the future of work will be shaped by companies that either primarily leverage AI for cost reduction or for enhancing employee value.
The first category of companies views AI as a tool to automate tasks, thereby reducing the need for human labor and improving profit margins. Intense competitive pressure is driving many businesses to seek efficiency gains through this technology.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has indicated this direction, noting that the deployment of generative AI is expected to decrease the need for staff in certain roles within the company.
A more distinct strategy, however, is emerging from companies asking how AI can make their people more valuable. These organizations are focusing on using AI to augment employee skills and productivity, rather than replacing them. This approach may offer a long-term competitive advantage through differentiation and investment in human capital.
