G2 Esports made history at the 2026 League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) playoffs held in Daejeon, South Korea. The LEC's first seed, G2, secured a dramatic 3-2 victory against LPL's second seed, TES, marking the first time in MSI main stage history a team has won a best-of-five series after losing the first two games.

TES started the series strong, taking the first two games. In Game 1, key plays from TES's top laner ZUIAN and mid laner Creme, including an early solo kill, set the tone. Game 2 saw TES's jungler Tian and support fengyue secure crucial objectives like Baron Nashor, leading to a commanding 2-0 lead.

The momentum shifted significantly in Game 3 as G2 mounted a comeback. Mid laner Caps was instrumental, achieving a "pentakill" (five eliminations) that propelled G2 to their first win. G2 carried this momentum into Game 4, with Caps again playing a pivotal role, leading them to equalize the series at 2-2.

The deciding Game 5 saw G2 maintain aggressive pressure from the start. A successful gank in the early game and strong teamfighting, particularly around the Baron objective, allowed G2 to close out the series and complete the reverse sweep. This victory marks G2's first BO5 win against an LPL team in 777 days.

In other playoff action, LCK's first seed, HLE, swept LCP's first seed, TSW, 3-0. G2 is now set to face HLE in the winner's bracket, while TES drops to the loser's bracket to play TSW.
